Valentine’s Day or Single Awareness Day (SAD) for others, is a day where loved ones spend time to cherish their romance. The people without a special someone in their lives often find an admirer to spend on this day. The true celebration of Valentine’s Day is to celebrate early Christians named Valentinus.
Although Valentine’s Day is a day of romance, it’s often criticized as a day of commercialization. It shouldn’t be a big holiday to cherish the one you love. That’s supposed to happen every day. I want you to write your opinion on Valentine’s Day. It could be a story or view of this day of love. There’s no word or paragraph limit. Write until you’re finished.

I have never celebrated Valentine’s day simply because we do not celebrate this festival in our country though we are Christians ourselves.
I have a special someone in my life with whom every day I live is a Valentine’s day- we have never bought anything for the other on this day. I am amazed at the commercialization of this festival and also the time spent on this on TV channels through soap operas and news casts. I wish this time could have been spent on socially productive causes- like the Make a Wish Foundation which tries to fulfill the wishes of a dying child.
Apologies for the late response but great comment. I definitely agree. Valentine’s Day is my least favorite holiday out of the 12 months of the year. I’m not sure if I should call it a holiday because it lost its meaning. It makes sense why it would be a commercialized holiday. Retail businesses have large income revenue in May, July, August, September, October, November and December.Those seven months out of the twelve are the only times where people do heavy shopping. I feel that people celebrate Valentine’s Day for the wrong reasons whether their intentions are good or not.
I recently volunteered for Habitat for Humanity renovating a dilapidated house. Not only was it for me to gain experience in a new career path of mine, but I did it to feel good for myself and help fix a house that people need to live in.
